Lookouts Game Notes 4-9-16

News & Notes

Last Time Out: Once again the Shuckers pitching staff proved to much to handle for the Lookouts offense as Chattanooga lost, 6-2. SP DJ Baxendale pitched a QS, allowing 3 ER in 6IP and striking out 5, but 4 hits and 2 runs from the Lookouts’ bats was not enough to back him up (1 hit each from CF Zack Granite, 3B Leo Reginatto, C Mitch Garver and DH Stuart Turner).

Comeback Tour: Bullpen arm Mason Melotakis made his first appearance after sitting out all of last season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. His debut was a mixed bag of results as he gave up a solo HR to BLX LF Victor Roache to widen the gap on the scoreboard, but did strike out two batters and kept anyone else from reaching base.

The Tools of Ignorance Offense: While the Lookouts offense hasn’t managed much scoring to start the season, it is no fault of Chattanooga’s catchers Mitch Garver and Stuart Turner. Garver hit his first Southern League HR last night to bring the score to 3-2 Biloxi in the seventh inning and has a hit in each of the first two games. Turner, meanwhile, has a double in four at bats, and reached base again after being hit by a pitch yesterday, putting him all over the offensive league leaders board early in the 2016 season.

Familiar Faces: This year’s roster features 19 players from last year’s SL Championship team, including SLCS MVP Jason Wheeler.

Top Prospects: Gone are the days of Sano, Buxton and Berrios, but that doesn’t mean the Lookouts are devoid of big name prospects. 8 of MIN top 30 prospects will play for CHA, topped by relievers Nick Burdi (#9, on DL) and JT Chargois (#10).
