JT Chargois picked up his second save of the year and has still yet to allow a base-runner this season. Check out this and other game notes below:
News & Notes
Last Time Out: The Lookouts pitching was solid throughout and the offense did just enough to seal a 4-3 win in the opener of the series against Mississippi Braves. SP Jason Wheeler is still looking for his first win on the year, but pitched well enough to earn one last night, going 6 innings and striking out 5 while allowing just 4 hits and 2 runs. Mason Melotakis (1 scoreless IP) and Alex Wimmers (1IP 1H 1R) pitched the seventh and eighth respectively and handed a lead to JT Chargois going in to the ninth. Chargois did what he does best and picked up his second save of the year. The Lookouts offense was driven by CF Zack Granite and SS Leo Reginatto. Granite was 2-for-5 with a run and a RBI, while Reginatto went 2-for-3 while scoring twice and walking once.
Slow and Steady: After starting the season quietly, the Lookouts offense has been steadily climbing the rankings over the last few games. Chattanooga is still collectively only hitting .226 and leads the league in strikeouts, but they’ve risen to 1st in HRs (6) and HBPs (12), 2nd in Rs (48) and 4th in total bases (119).
Getting Defensive: After another errorless game, Chattanooga’s defense ranks as one of the best in the Southern League. The Lookouts are 3rd in fielding percentage (.980), while only committing 8 errors in 11 games and turning a league-leading 18 double plays.
Closing Time…Continued: JT Chargois continues to dominate out of the bullpen to start 2016. In 4 appearances, Chargois has yet to allow a base runner while striking out seven batters in four innings pitched. He also picked up his second save of the year, making him a perfect 22-for-22 in career save opportunities.
