News & Notes

Last Time Out: The Lookouts offense didn’t have to do much to earn a win yesterday with pitchers Jason Wheeler and Marcus Walden shutting the Barons out, but put up 4 runs anyway for a 4-0 victory. Wheeler went 7 innings allowing just 4 hits, while Walden closed the game out with 2 IP and just one hit allowed. Four batters had multiple hits for the Lookouts last night, including LF Zack Granite (2-for-3, 2-2Bs), DH DJ Hicks (2-for-3, R BB SB), CF Shannon Wilkerson (2-for-3, R RBI) and SS Engelb Vielma (2-for-3, 2R RBI).

Rally Runs pt. V: The Lookouts offense can’t stop putting up runs in the late innings as they continued their trend of back half of the game scoring. The 3 runs in the 7th were the 31st, 32nd and 33rd runs this year scored in the seventh inning or later by Chattanooga, which accounts for 49% of the teams total scoring on the season (33 7th or later/67 total).

W for the W’s: Pitchers Jason Wheeler and Marcus Walden continued terrific seasons with a combined 5 hit shutout last night with 11 Ks (the most by Lookouts pitchers in a game this season). Wheeler has now allowed just 2 ER while striking out 17 and walking only 2 over his last 3 starts (19 IP, all quality starts). After last night, Walden has given up 1 earned run in his last 4 appearances on just 1 hit with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks. Walden’s batting average against (.091) is third lowest in the Southern League among relievers.

Making Contact: Despite the Lookouts leading the league in strikeouts as hitters, lead-off man Zack Granite has struck out only 5 times in 60 at bats, good for the third lowest strikeouts-per-total plate appearances in the league (13.60).
