News & Notes
Last Time Out: In the bottom of the 10th inning Daniel Palka smacked a single to third base to bring home the winning run and give the Lookouts the 1-0 win over Biloxi. Palka might have knocked in the winning run for the Lookouts, but the win would not have been possible without starting pitcher David Hurlbut. Hurlbut was sensational through nine innings, only allowing two hits while striking out seven batters. Despite Hurlbut’s performance the game still went into extra innings. Biloxi’s pitching staff had an almost equally great night. Shuckers starting pitcher Josh Hader struck out eight Lookouts over six innings while holding the team to four hits. Tristen Archer and Steve Peterson came in after Hader and also held the Lookouts offense in check. The lone run of the day was given up by Jed Bradley who gave up Palka’s walk-off single to score C Stuart Turner in the 10th.
Going Streaking: With Daniel Palka’s RBI single in the tenth inning last night, the Lookouts extended their winning streak to four games, their longest of the season. The last time the Lookouts won four or more games in a row was the end of August 2015, when Chattanooga picked up four wins against the Barons in Birmingham. The last home winning streak of four or more was June 18th-21st of last season, when the Lookouts took four of five from the Jacksonville Suns.
Locked In: David Hurlbut and Jake Reed added to what has been a dominant stretch by Chattanooga pitchers. The Lookouts pitching staff has not allowed a walk in 32 straight innings and have struck out 27 batters over that span, going back to Ryan Eades start on 5/13 when he walked a Pensacola batter to lead off the top of the fifth. Four pitchers have combined to allow just 10 hits in the last 19 innings.
Palka Power: While it took him to his fifth at bat to get a hit, Daniel Palka’s walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth couldn’t have been bigger, driving in Stuart Turner to win the Lookouts fourth game in a row. Palka is hitting .316 over his last five games with four extra base hits (two doubles, two home runs), three runs and five driven in. He’ll look to continue a 7 game hitting streak tonight.
Error Free: While the Lookouts pitching has with no doubt been phenomenal over the last few games, they have been backed by strong and steady defense as Chattanooga has not committed in error in the last three games.
