Three Stars of the Series: 5/19-23
The Lookouts completed their series against the Jackson Generals last night in a 7-0 loss, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some big performances and positives throughout the five games. Let’s take a look at the three stars of the series against the Generals.
Third Star: RHP Jake Reed
Any time you go to extra innings, someone in the bullpen is going to have to step up and shoulder the burden of the added workload. That someone for the Lookouts in Sunday night’s 11-inning loss was Jake Reed. Reed threw three shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five in relief of starting pitcher Aaron Slegers, giving Chattanooga every opportunity to stay in the game.
Second Star: LHP Nick Greenwood
After allowing five runs in his Lookouts debut on May 10th, starting pitcher Nick Greenwood has been steady in the second spot in the Chattanooga rotation. Greenwood picked up his second win in a row with a seven inning outing with just two runs allowed and walking only his first batter in 20 innings pitched in the Southern League. Greenwood also struck out a trio of Generals hitters.
First Star: 1B DJ Hicks
DJ Hicks must have something against the Jackson Generals. The 6’5″ first baseman has absolutely crushed Generals’ pitching this season hitting .368 with three doubles, all four of his 2016 season home runs, nine runs scored and 11 driven in through ten games. In these last five, Hicks was 8-for-20 (.400) while accounting for seven of the ten runs Chattanooga scored.
