News & Notes
Last Time Out: Daniel Palka’s night alone would have been good enough to tie the Barons yesterday, as the now Southern League home run leader went deep twice for the second game in a row. Luckily for Palka he wasn’t the only one hitting, as Zack Granite finished 2-for-5 while Leo Reginatto and Mitch Garver each drove in a run to propel the Lookouts to a 4-2 win. David Hurlbut got his third win of the season with a one run outing (6.1IP 7H 1BB 2K), while Jake Reed got his second save of the year to close out the game.
Palka SMASH2: One day after becoming the first Lookout to hit multiple home runs in a game this season with his eighth and ninth inning long balls, Daniel Palka became the second player to do so as well. Last night, Palka went 2-for-4 with another pair of homeruns Palka is now tied for 4th in all of Double-A baseball in homeruns (11), and first in the Southern League and the Twins organization in the same category. Palka now sports the 2nd-best-in-the-Southern-League 1HR/17AB HR to AB ratio. Also note, 6 of Palka’s 11 dingers have been at the Barons expense.
Going Streaking: Leo Reginatto went 1-for-4 with a run and a RBI last night to give him hits in his last 10 games, tied for the longest streak this season. Engelb Vielma also had a ten game streak earlier this season, while Reginatto passed DJ Hick’s nine games yesterday. Reginatto is 14-for-41 (.341) with five runs and six driven in during the streak.
Zack the Flash: Zack Granite picked up his team leading 16th multi-hit game last night, going 2-for-5 with a pair of stolen bases. Granite now has 24 swiped bags on the season, good for second in the Southern League, and putting on pace for 63 over the year. Should he reach that total, it would be good for fourth all time on the Lookouts single season records list, behind Donnell Nixon (102 in 1984), Kevin Rhomberg (74 in 1981), Jeff Cox (68 in 1977) and ahead of Dee Gordon who stole 53 bases in 2010.
Road Warriors: Last night’s win clinches the Lookouts their first road series win of the year and fifth overall. Chattanooga is just 9-14 away from AT&T Field in 2016.
Quality Work: Tonight’s starter Aaron Slegers is coming in to tonight’s start with back to back quality starts to his name. Slegers didn’t receive a decision in either one, but has allowed just four earned runs in his last 12 innings pitched.
Lucky #7: One day after the Minnesota Twins informed the Lookouts Monday that #7 (per MLB Pipeline) Twins prospect Kohl Stewart was on his way to the Chattanooga pitching staff, the official move came through as Luke Bard is headed back to Fort Myers to make room for Stewart. Stewart surpasses bullpen arm Nick Burdi (#8, on DL) as the highest ranked prospect on the Lookouts roster and has put up solid numbers with Ft. Myers this season to justify his ranking. Stewart is 3-2 with a 2.61 ERA in 9 starts for the Miracle, allowing just 15 earned runs and 39 hits in 51.2 innings pitched. The highly-touted righty was the fourth overall pick in the 2013 draft and passed up a baseball & football scholarship from Texas A&M to sign w/MIN
