News & Notes
Last Time Out: The Lookouts offense picked up a rough debut for Kohl Stewart by scoring nine runs on 12 hits in the 9-6 series finale against the Barons. Daniel Palka hit his 5th home run in the last five games against the Barons, his 7th overall against Birmingham this season, and his 12th overall this year. Zack Granite, Leo Reginatto, Travis Harrison and Mitch Garver all finished with two hits while Granite also walked three times and Harrison drove in three. Stewart lasted just 1.2 innings allowing five runs, four earned, four hits and three walks while striking out three. Luke Westphal relieved him without allowing a hit while walking and striking out four each. Omar Bencomo earned his second win while Trevor Hildenberger earned his 7th save.
Going Streaking: Leo Reginatto went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and RBI last night to give him hits in his last 12 games, the longest streak by a Lookouts player this season. Engelb Vielma had a ten game streak earlier this season, while Reginatto passed DJ Hick’s nine games Thursday. Reginatto is 17-for-49 (.347) with seven runs and nine driven in during the streak.
Zack the Flash: Zack Granite picked up his team leading 18th multi-hit game last night, going 2-for-3 with three walks(2nd time Granite has walked three times in a game), a pair of runs and a RBI. Granite has 25 swiped bags on the season, good for second in the Southern League, and putting on pace for 63.6 over the year. Should he reach that total, it would be good for fourth all time on the Lookouts single season records list, behind Donnell Nixon (102 in 1984), Kevin Rhomberg (74 in 1981), Jeff Cox (68 in 1977) and ahead of Dee Gordon who stole 53 bases in 2010.
Palka SMASH3: Daniel Palka has five hits in June and all five of them are Homeruns. Palka hit his fifth long ball of the series and month last night, giving him a league and Twins organization leading 12 homeruns this year. 7 of the 12 homeruns have come at the Barons expense, while Palka is also second in the Southern League in RBI (40) and HR/AB Ratio at 1/16.08.
Ol’ Dependable: DJ Baxendale has been a steady and solid arm for the Lookouts in their rotation all season. In his last five starts, Baxendale is 4-1 (4 QS), with a 4.20 ERA with 14 earned runs and five walks/20 strikeouts allowed through 30 innings. Overall, Baxendale has a 5-5 record with a 3.49 ERA and a .261 batting average against.
Closing Time: When JT Chargois was called up to AAA Rochester, it left the Lookouts with a hole at closer, but Trevor Hildenberger has wasted no time filling it. Hildenberger earned his seventh save last night with a scoreless bottom of the ninth and hasn’t allowed a run in his last nine outings (12 IP, 7 H, 2 BB, 11 K). The righty has used his deceptive delivery (changing arm angles) to keep hitters off balance in the Southern League, allowing just two runs in 18 innings with a .180 average against.
