News & Notes
Last Time Out: The Chattanooga Lookouts won their 8th game of their last ten Monday night, beating the Smokies 4-2 to clinch their fourth straight series victory. RHP Aaron Slegers got the start for the Lookouts and threw six innings of two run ball, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out seven. Jake Reed threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to bridge the gap to closer Trevor Hildenberger who earned his 9th save with the Lookouts. Lead-off hitter Zack Granite had a huge game for Chattanooga, giving them a one run lead right out of the gates with a game starting homerun. He finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, a run driven in, a walk and a stolen base. Leo Reginatto and DJ Hicks also finished with multi-hit games, both going 2-for-3.
Palka, Player of the Week: Daniel Palka received Southern League Player of the Week honors today after hitting .345 with seven extra-base hits, four HRs, 10 RBI, a .931 slugging percentage and an OPS of 1.306 between June 6th and June 12th. Palka is on pace for 35 long balls this season, leads the league in HRs-per-at-bats (1/14.00), and is second in RBI with 50.
Offense Rising: Even after yesterday’s loss, the climb of Chattanooga’s offense has been impressive across the board. Earlier in the season the Lookouts offense was ranked as low as second to last, but has climbed all the way to third in the Southern League with a .256 team batting average, 2nd place rankings in runs (290), HRs (38), 3rd in OBP (.331) and 2nd in stolen bases (69).
Zack The Flash: Zack Granite stole his 29th base of the season yesterday, good for second in the Southern League. Granite remains on pace for 63 swiped bags, which would rank in the top five single season performances on the base paths in team history.
Quality Work: Last night’s starter Aaron Slegers threw his fifth straight quality start Monday, throwing six innings of two run ball with seven strikeouts. Slegers has thrown 31 innings, allowing just 10 runs (9 earned) on 24 hits with 29 strikeouts over those five games.
Hey Now, You’re An All Star: Trevor Hildenberger, DJ Baxendale, Travis Harrison, Daniel Palka, & Mitch Garver were all named Southern League Midseason All Stars Monday. They’ll represent the Lookouts in Pearl, MIS over the All Star Break June 20-22. Palka will DH and bat clean-up while Garver will start behind the plate in the All Star Game, as announced this morning.
HR Race: This year’s and last year’s Southern League Home Run leaders are in a neck-&-neck battle for the lead in long balls for the Twins organization. Adam Brett Walker hit his 13th of the season Tuesday night to move within two of Daniel Palka. Palka took the lead with a pair of homers Thursday (his third multi-HR game of the season), extended the lead with another Friday, and hit yet another homer Sunday (16 total).
