News & Notes
Last Time Out: The Chattanooga Lookouts clinched their eighth series win of the first half in a 4-2 victory of the Biscuits last night. The Lookouts offense was powered by the top of their line up as their first four hitters all had multi-hit performances. Zack Granite (2-for-5), Engelb Vielma (3-for-5, Daniel Palka (3-for-5) and Travis Harrison (2-for-4) finished a combined 10-for-19 with four runs scored and three driven in. The only other Lookout with a hit was Mitch Garver who finished 1-for-4 with a walk. Starter Aaron Slegers threw his sixth straight quality start and won his third game in a row with a two run outing. Slegers lasted six and a third innings before Jake Reed took over with 1.2 innings of shutout ball. Trevor Hildenberger threw a perfect ninth to earn his 11th save.
Error-Free is the Way to Be: The Lookouts finished yet another game without an error and remain the defensive league leaders with the highest fielding percentage (.986) and lowest error total (36). They also lead in fewest passed balls behind the plate (just 6 in 68 games) and turned double plays (84, 12 more than the next closest team).
Closing Time: Trevor Hildenberger has been absolutely lights out for the Lookouts since getting called up from Ft. Myers, April 26th. He has allowed just two runs all year and is scoreless in 18 straight innings, allowed just eight hits two walks and has struck out 20 over that span. Hildenberger picked up his 11th Southern League save last night and has converted six opportunities in his last seven appearances with a win in the one game without a save.
Hey Now, You’re An All Star: Trevor Hildenberger, DJ Baxendale, Travis Harrison, Daniel Palka, & Mitch Garver were all named Southern League Midseason All Stars Monday. They’ll represent the Lookouts in Pearl, MIS over the All Star Break June 20-22. Palka will DH and bat clean-up while Garver will start behind the plate in the All Star Game, as announced this morning.
Palka, Player of the Week: Daniel Palka received Southern League Player of the Week honors today after hitting .345 with seven extra-base hits, four HRs, 10 RBI, a .931 slugging percentage and an OPS of 1.306 between June 6th and June 12th. Palka is on pace for 35 long balls this season, leads the league in HRs-per-at-bats (1/14.00), and is second in RBI with 50.
HR Race: This year’s and last year’s Southern League Home Run leaders are in a neck-&-neck battle for the lead in long balls for the Twins organization. Adam Brett Walker hit his 13th of the season Tuesday night to move within two of Daniel Palka. Palka took the lead with a pair of homers Thursday (his third multi-HR game of the season), extended the lead with another Friday, and hit yet another homer Sunday (16 total).
