Lookouts Game Notes 6-26-16

News & Notes

Last Time Out: The Lookouts backed Stephen Gonsalves up with five runs in his debut to earn him a win with a 5-3 win over Jackson. Gonsalves went five innings, allowing two runs in the first but striking out the side. He finished with six punch outs, six hits and four walks. Zack Jones, Mason Melotakis, and Jake Reed each threw a scoreless inning bridging the game to closer Trevor Hildenberger who allowed a run but struck out three and collected his 12 save of the season. Daniel Palka continued to be a big bat in the Lookouts lineup, hitting his 18th home run, while Zack Granite went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs driven in. Ryan Walker also finished with a multi-hit performance and a pair of runs scored.

Quality Time: Aaron Sleger’s enters today with six straight quality starts. He is 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA (11ER in 37.1IP), 27 hits allowed and 33 struck out in those six games started.

Chicks Dig the Long Ball: Daniel Palka went deep for the 18th time this season last night and remains at the top of the southern league in homers. He’s on pace for 34 home runs and 107 RBI, which would surpass the Lookouts single season home run record set by Adam Brett Walker II.

Closing Time: Trevor Hildenberger was a huge highlight for the Lookouts in the first half and has been absolutely lights out for the Lookouts since getting called up from Ft. Myers, April 26th. He has allowed just three runs all year and had a scoreless streak end at 19.1 straight innings, with just eight hits, two walks and 22 strikeouts over that span. Hildenberger’s streak ended last night, but he still picked up his 12th save and struck out three batters.

Highly-Touted: #6 Twins Prospect Stephen Gonsalves made his Lookouts debut last night, earning a win with five innings of two run ball, while striking out six and walking four. Gonsalves passed recent-Miracle teammate Kohl Stewart as the highest ranked prospect on the Chattanooga roster and was also ranked #99 overall in the top 100 prospects and listed as the #10 best LHP prospect (all per MLB Pipeline). Gonsalves joined the Lookouts after going 5-4 with a 2.33 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 11 games started and 65.2 innings pitched for Ft. Myers.

Hey Now, You’re An All Star: Trevor Hildenberger, DJ Baxendale, Travis Harrison, Daniel Palka, & Mitch Garver represented the Lookouts in Pearl, MS for the 2016 Southern League All Star Game. Palka and Garver both started for the North Division team, while Harrison got a hit after subbing in off the bench. Baxendale and Hildenberger each had scoreless outings.
