News & Notes
Last Time Out: Kohl Stewart took a hard-luck loss Monday as the Lookouts fell 3-1 to the Generals. Stewart threw six scoreless innings before the Generals finally got to him in the 7th, plating three that inning and chasing Stewart from the game. Corey Williams kept the Lookouts in the game down 3-1 with two shutout innings, but the offense couldn’t get the job done. Zack Granite was the only Lookout with multiple hits and Daniel Palka drove in the lone run. Mitch Garver and Stuart Turner had Chattanooga’s only other hits.
Quality Time: Tonight’s Starter David Hurlbut enters the game with five straight quality starts. Hurlbut is 3-0 with a 1.45 ERA while striking out 18 and walking three in those starts. Hurlbut is 5-3 with a 3.61 ERA overall.
Zack The Flash: With a 2-for-4 night Zack Granite collected his team-leading 27th multi-hit game. Granite is hitting .368 in June, going hitless just twice in 23 games. He has nine extrabase hits (4-2B, 2-3B, 3 HR), with 18 runs scored and 10 RBI, eight stolen bases, while walking more than he has struck out in those 23 games (9BB/7K). The hot streak has elevated Granite into the top 10 in batting average (.294), second in stolen bases (30), and in to the top three in hits (82) and runs (45).
Vs. Pensacola: Though the Lookouts dropped 3 of the 5 games against Pensacola in the first meeting of the two teams in 2016, the offense hit a combined .311 led by DJ Hicks (9-for-20 4R 6RBI) and Ryan Walker (8-for-17 3B 4R 5RBI).
Streaking: The Lookouts beat the Generals in three of the first five games of the second half to clinch their sixth straight series victory. Chattanooga is 16-8 in the month of June.
Chicks Dig the Long Ball: Daniel Palka went deep for the 19th time this season Sunday and remains at the top of the southern league in homers. In the month of June the slugger now has 12 HRs which is the most in all of MiLB in that span. He’s on pace for 35 home runs and 109 RBI, which would surpass the Lookouts single season home run record set by Adam Brett Walker II.
Highly-Touted: #6 Twins Prospect Stephen Gonsalves made his Lookouts debut Saturday, earning a win with five innings of two run ball, while striking out six and walking four. Gonsalves passed recent-Miracle teammate Kohl Stewart as the highest ranked prospect on the Chattanooga roster and was also ranked #99 overall in the top 100 prospects and listed as the #10 best LHP prospect (all per MLB Pipeline). Gonsalves joined the Lookouts after going 5-4 with a 2.33 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 11 games started and 65.2 innings pitched for Ft. Myers.
