June Wrap-Up: The Lookouts come in to the last game in June with a 16-9 record, .263 batting average and 2.77 team ERA for the month. The big bats in the month have been Zack Granite (see below), Leo Reginatto (.329) and Daniel Palka. Palka hit three doubles, three triples and 12 homers in 25 June games to score 19 runs, drive in 28, and power a .791 SLG a 1.162 OPS. Chattanooga had two starters have a phenomenal month with David Hurlbut going 3-1 with a 1.45 ERA in six starts and Aaron Slegers finishing at 4-0 with a 2.16 in five starts. Closer Trevor Hildenberger is 2-0 with a 0.87 ERA, 7/8 in save opportunities, 5 hits allowed and a 14-to-1 K to BB ratio in 10.1 innings pitched.
Zack The Flash: With a 1-for-5 night Wednesday, Zack Granite extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Granite is hitting .360 in June, going hitless just twice in 24 games. He has nine extrabase hits (4-2B, 2-3B, 3 HR), with 18 runs scored and 10 RBI, eight stolen bases, while walking more than he has struck out in those 23 games (9BB/7K). The hot streak has elevated Granite into second in stolen bases (30) and in to the top three in hits (83) and runs (45).
Quality Time: Last night’s Starter David Hurlbut threw his sixth straight quality start. Hurlbut is 3-1 with a 1.45 ERA while striking out 23 and walking 4 in those starts. Hurlbut is 5-4 with a 3.47 ERA overall.
Vs. Pensacola: Though the Lookouts dropped 3 of the 5 games against Pensacola in the first meeting of the two teams in 2016, the offense hit a combined .311 led by DJ Hicks (9-for-20 4R 6RBI) and Ryan Walker (8-for-17 3B 4R 5RBI) entering the series.
Streaking: The Lookouts beat the Generals in three of the first five games of the second half to clinch their sixth straight series victory. Chattanooga is 16-8 in the month of June.
Chicks Dig the Long Ball: Daniel Palka went deep for the 19th time this season Sunday and remains at the top of the southern league in homers. In the month of June the slugger now has 12 HRs which is the most in all of MiLB in that span. He’s on pace for 35 home runs and 109 RBI, which would surpass the Lookouts single season home run record set by Adam Brett Walker II.
Highly-Touted: #6 Twins Prospect Stephen Gonsalves made his Lookouts debut Saturday, earning a win with five innings of two run ball, while striking out six and walking four. Gonsalves passed recent-Miracle teammate Kohl Stewart as the highest ranked prospect on the Chattanooga roster and was also ranked #99 overall in the top 100 prospects and listed as the #10 best LHP prospect (all per MLB Pipeline). Gonsalves joined the Lookouts after going 5-4 with a 2.33 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 11 games started and 65.2 innings pitched for Ft. Myers.
