Last Time Out: After being held to one run in the last two games the Lookouts offense broke out, scoring seven in a 7-3 victory over the Blue Wahoos. Starter Ryan Eades cruised through six innings, allowing a run on four hits while striking out six. Jake Reed allowed Pensacola’s other two runs in the eighth, before Mason Melotakis threw his seventh consecutive scoreless outing to close the game. Daniel Palka hit his 20th homerun while Shannon Wilkerson went 2-for-2 with a homer, two runs scored and three driven in after subbing in for Zack Granite in the 5th.
June Wrap-Up: The Lookouts finished June with a 17-9 record, .263 batting average and 2.78 team ERA for the month. The big bats in the month have been Zack Granite (see below), Leo Reginatto (.318) and Daniel Palka. Palka hit three doubles, three triples and 13 homers in 26 June games to score 20 runs, drive in 30, and power a .802 SLG & a 1.174 OPS. Chattanooga had two starters have a phenomenal month with David Hurlbut going 3-1 with a 1.45 ERA in six starts and Aaron Slegers finishing at 4-0 with a 2.16 in five starts. Closer Trevor Hildenberger is 2-0 with a 0.87 ERA, 7/8 in save opportunities, 5 hits allowed and a 14-to-1 K to BB ratio in 10.1 innings pitched.
Zack The Flash: With a 1-for-2 night Thursday before leaving the game early, Zack Granite extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Granite hit .363 in June, going hitless just twice in 25 games. He has nine extrabase hits (4-2B, 2-3B, 3 HR), with 18 runs scored and 10 RBI, eight stolen bases, while walking more than he has struck out in those 25 games (9BB/7K). The hot streak has elevated Granite into second in stolen bases (30) and in to the top three in hits (84) and runs (45).
Streaking: The Lookouts beat the Generals in three of the first five games of the second half to clinch their sixth straight series victory. Chattanooga is 16-8 in the month of June.
Chicks Dig the Long Ball: Daniel Palka went deep for the 20th time this season Thursday and remains at the top of the southern league in homers and RBI (61). In the month of June the slugger had 13 HRs which is the most in all of MiLB in that span. He’s on pace for 36 home runs and 110 RBI, which would surpass the Lookouts single season home run record set by Adam Brett Walker II.
Highly-Touted: #6 Twins Prospect Stephen Gonsalves made his Lookouts debut Saturday, earning a win with five innings of two run ball, while striking out six and walking four. Gonsalves passed recent-Miracle teammate Kohl Stewart as the highest ranked prospect on the Chattanooga roster and was also ranked #99 overall in the top 100 prospects and listed as the #10 best LHP prospect (all per MLB Pipeline). Gonsalves joined the Lookouts after going 5-4 with a 2.33 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 11 games started and 65.2 innings pitched for Ft. Myers.
