News & Notes
Last Time Out: A furious comeback attempt by the Lookouts fell just short in a 10-8 loss to Pensacola. The Lookouts entered the eighth inning down 10-3 before scoring five runs capped by a two run homer by Travis Harrison. The scoring ended there though as Chattanooga couldn’t close the rest of the gap on the scoreboard. Mitch Garver also homered and Niko Goodrum went 3-for-4 in his first game back with the Lookouts since 2015. LHP Stephen Gonsalves continued showing strong strikeout offerings, King 8, but was roughed up to the tune of six runs in 3.2 innings. He suffered his first Southern League loss.
Quality Work: Aaron Slegers comes into his start tonight having won four straight with seven consecutive quality starts. Slegers is 4-0 with a 2.39 ERA through that stretch and is 6-4 with a 3.38 overall.
Top Prospects: Daniel Palka and Trevor Hildenberger both entered MLB Pipeline’s top 30 Twins prospects list after an update yesterday. Hildenberger got ranked 24th while Palka, fresh off winning Southern League Player of the Month for June, came in at 27th.
June Wrap-Up: The Lookouts finished June with a 17-9 record, .263 batting average and 2.78 team ERA for the month. The big bats in the month have been Zack Granite (see below), Leo Reginatto (.318) and Daniel Palka. Palka hit three doubles, three triples and 13 homers in 26 June games to score 20 runs, drive in 30, and power a .802 SLG & a 1.174 OPS. Chattanooga had two starters have a phenomenal month with David Hurlbut going 3-1 with a 1.45 ERA in six starts and Aaron Slegers finishing at 4-0 with a 2.16 in five starts. Closer Trevor Hildenberger is 2-0 with a 0.87 ERA, 7/8 in save opportunities, 5 hits allowed and a 14-to-1 K to BB ratio in 10.1 innings pitched.
Zack The Flash: With a 1-for-2 night Thursday before leaving the game early, Zack Granite extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Granite hit .363 in June, going hitless just twice in 25 games. He has nine extrabase hits (4-2B, 2-3B, 3 HR), with 18 runs scored and 10 RBI, eight stolen bases, while walking more than he has struck out in those 25 games (9BB/7K). The hot streak has elevated Granite into second in stolen bases (30) and in to the top three in hits (84) and runs (45).
Streaking: The Lookouts beat the Generals in three of the first five games of the second half to clinch their sixth straight series victory. Chattanooga is 16-8 in the month of June.
Chicks Dig the Long Ball: Daniel Palka went deep for the 20th time this season Thursday and remains at the top of the southern league in homers and RBI (61). In the month of June the slugger had 13 HRs which is the most in all of MiLB in that span. He’s on pace for 36 home runs and 110 RBI, which would surpass the Lookouts single season home run record set by Adam Brett Walker II.
