News & Notes
Last Time Out: Stephen Gonsalves, Zack Jones and Trevor Hildenberger got the edge in a pitchers’ duel in the series finale with a 3-1 win. Gonsalves threw seven innings of one-run ball, striking out nine and allowing just two hits, while Jones and Hildenberger each threw perfect innings in the eighth and ninth. Mitch Garver went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI while Ryan Walker and Edgar Corcino drove in the other runs. Corcino also finished with two hits, while Zack Granite went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and run scored.
In-the-Clutch: Mitch Garver drove in 9 runs in the last series, backed by two four RBI performances. Since, he’s moved up to third in the Southern League with 57 runs driven in and is currently hitting .358 with runners in scoring position.
Streaking: The Lookouts won their 10th straight series with a clutch 3-1 rubber match win against the Bay Bears. The last time Chattanooga lost a series was two months ago in Jackson.
Closing Time: Trevor Hildenberger picked up his 16th save of the season Monday with a perfect 1-2-3 inning. He went 3-for-3 in the Mobile Series in save opportunities and has blown just one all year. Even more impressive, Hildenberger has allowed just three runs in 34 innings pitched for an eye-popping 0.79 ERA.
Missing Bats: Stephen Gonsalves was fantastic for the Lookouts in the series finale against Mobile. The LHP allowed just two hits and one run in a pitchers’ duel Monday, while walking two and striking out nine. Gonsalves has now Ked 39 Southern League batters in 27.2 innings pitched, while opposing teams are hitting .212 against him.
Welcome Back: Brandon Peterson returns to the Lookouts after a call-up Monday morning. Peterson started the year with Chattanooga but was sent down to Fort Myers after allowing five runs in eight innings. He went 3-0 with a 2.65 ERA and 44 Ks in 34 innings with the Miracle to earn a promotion after Luke Westphal was sent down.
Mr. 100: Zack Granite took the Southern League lead in hits with a 3-for-5 day Wednesday, while also becoming the first SL batter to the 100 hit mark. His .382 July average has elevated his overall numbers (.308) into the top three batting averages in the league as well.
