Jake Reed and Trevor Hildenberger threw scoreless innings to close the game, while Zach Jones allowed a run in the sixth.
Hurlbut vs The Smokies: David Hurlbut threw eight shutout innings with eight hits allowed, a walk and four strikeouts the last time he face the Smokies. He is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 19 innings over three starts against Tennessee in 2016.
In-the-Clutch: Mitch Garver drove in three runs Wednesday with a double and his 10th homer of the season to run his total to 61 RBI, the fourth highest total among Southern League hitters. Garver has been a driving force for the Lookouts offense all season, batting .333 with runners in scoring position and .322 with runners on.
Closing Time: Trevor Hildenberger threw another scoreless inning Wednesday while striking out a batter in the 9th inning. Even more impressive, Hildenberger has allowed just three earned runs in 36 innings pitched for an eye-popping 0.70 ERA. Streak Busted: Aaron Slegers suffered his fifth loss of the season Tuesday, snapping a string of six consecutive wins and nine straight quality starts for Slegers who fell to 8-5 with a 3.83 ERA on the season.
Streaking: The Lookouts fourth loss in a row to the Generals ensured the end of their series victory streak. Chattanooga had won 10 straight sets of games, last losing a series the last time they were in Jackson back in May.
