News & Notes
Last Time Out: The Lookouts fell 2-0 to the Bay Bears in a seven innings contest Monday night after finishing off Sunday’s postponed game. Both teams had just four hits a piece but the Bay Bears pitching staff kept the Lookouts from scoring, the third time Mobile has done so to Chattanooga. Kohl Stewart took a hard-luck loss as he threw a six inning complete game allowing a lone earned run on four hits while striking out three and walking two. Zack Granite, Ryan Walker, Mitch Garver and Jairo Rodriguez had one hit each for the only offense for Chattanooga.
Where Were We?: The Lookouts and Bay Bears finished off Sunday’s postponed game yesterday with the Looks winning 8-3. Omar Bencomo earned his third win of the season with four innings of relief, allowing just one run on five hits. Raul Fernandez had a big two shutout inning performance while Mason Melotakis finished the game allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth. Zack Granite and Mitch Garver were the big bats for Chattanooga as Granite had three hits and Garver drove in three with his 11th homer of the year.
Trade Deadline Impact: Monday’s MLB Trade Deadline had an impact on Chattanooga as the Twins sent Ricky Nolasco and Alex Meyer to the LA Angels for Hector Santiago and Alan Busenitz, the latter of which was assigned the Lookouts roster. Busenitz played college ball at Kennesaw State in Georgia, and has had a mixed season so far. The RHP had an impressive 1.93 ERA in 32.2 innings in Double-A Arkansas while seeing his numbers jump to a 7.62 ERA in 13 innings when promoted to Triple-A.
Max-MVP-Kepler: Max Kepler, last year’s Southern League MVP, for the Lookouts put on a show Monday night, going 4-for-6 with three home runs, three runs scored and six driven in for the Twins. The three-homer performance was just the fifth such effort in Twins history
Closing Time: Trevor Hildenberger threw another scoreless inning Wednesday while striking out a batter in the 9th inning. Even more impressive, Hildenberger has allowed just three earned runs in 36 innings pitched for an eye-popping 0.70 ERA. Trevor’s 16 saves are the most by a Lookout since 2013 when Yimi Garcia finished with 19. Trevor was placed on the disabled list with right elbow tendonitis Friday, 7/29.
Missing Bats: Stephen Gonsalves has K’ed 47 batters in 38.2 innings pitched across seven starts for the Lookouts. The LHP allowed eight runs in his first two starts lasting just 8.2 combined innings, but has thrown 30 innings with 16 hits and four runs allowed in four starts since.
