News & Notes
Last Time Out: Chattanooga fell 2-0 to the Jacksonville Suns after rain delayed the start of the game for just over an hour. The Lookouts offense sprinkled six hits out across the game with no player finishing with more than one hit and seven runners left on base. Ryan Walker was the only batter to finish with an extra-base hit, collecting his ninth double of the season. David Hurlbut started for the Lookouts and threw a quality start with two runs allowed in 6.2 innings but suffered his seventh loss of the season. Alan Busenitz and Mason Melotakis each threw scoreless outings to close out the game.
Roster Shuffling: Two Lookouts that have been in Chattanooga all season got the call up to Triple-A Rochester Tuesday, with Mitch Garver and Leo Reginatto heading up. Garver will be missed at the plate where he was hitting .257 but had been a scoring force for the Lookouts with 11 homers and 66RBI, the most by a Lookouts player in 2016. Joining the Lookouts are familiar faces TJ White and Heiker Meneses. White played with the Lookouts for 34 games between May and June before going back down to Ft. Myers while Meneses was a member of the Southern League Championship winning version of the Lookouts in 2015.
Innings-Eater: David Hurlbut, Monday’s starter, has gone six or more innings in 15 of his last 17 starts. The LHP is averaging 5.9 innings per start (136/23 GS) and leads the Southern League in frames thrown. His 136 innings pitched is the highest total of his career (next highest: 119 IP across three levels last year).
Top-Heavy: The top three hitters in the Lookouts batting order Sunday did almost entirely all of the work for Chattanooga’s offense Sunday. Zack Granite (2-for-4, R), Ryan Walker (2-for-3, HR 2R 2RBI BB) and Niko Goodrum (1-for-4, HR R 2RBI 2K) combined for five of the Lookouts six hits, all four runs scored and all four driven in as well. The only hitter outside of that trio to collect a base knock was Leo Reginatto (1-for-3).
Decisions, Decisions: RHP Kohl Stewart has received a decision in every game since his debut, earning his sixth win Saturday (6-5). Stewart is 4-1 in his last five starts with a 1.74 ERA in 31 innings pitched during that stretch.
Missing Bats: Stephen Gonsalves has K’ed 55 batters in 44.2 innings pitched across eight starts for the Lookouts. The LHP allowed eight runs in his first two starts lasting just 8.2 combined innings, but has thrown 36 innings with 19 hits and five runs allowed in five starts since. Southern League batters are hitting just .195 against Stephen in 159 total AB.
