Three Stars of the Series: 8/5-9
The Lookouts dropped a tough series to the Jacksonville Suns three games to two after falling in the series finale 3-0 yesterday. But just because they didn’t win the series, it doesn’t mean the team was short of impressive performances. Let’s take a look at the best of the best in this weeks Three Stars of the Series.
Third Star – Kohl Stewart
The Twins 1st round pick from 2013 has shown growth in each of his Southern League starts, culminating in his eight inning gem in the second game of the series. Stewart gave up seven hits but spread them well over his eight frames, as just two Suns came home to score. Stewart has received a decision in every game since his Lookouts debut, earning his sixth win Saturday (6-5). He is 4-1 in his last five starts with a 1.74 ERA in 31 innings pitched during that stretch.
Second Star – Ryan Walker
Ryan Walker was a force at the plate for the Lookouts in the last series. The infielder accounted for half of the runs Chattanooga scored in the five games against the Suns with two runs scored and three driven in. Walker hit .375 (6-for-16) against Jacksonville, is hitting .290 on the season, .385 in August and .310 in the second half.
First Star – Omar Bencomo
Bencomo has been shuttled back and forth between the rotation and the bullpen and has handled the shifting roles admirably, particularly in his last few outings. The RHP threw seven innings in his spot start against the Suns and allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out five. Adding that to the one run performance he had taking over for Aaron Slegers in a resumed game last series, Bencomo is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in his last two appearances (13 innings pitched, seven hits and one run allowed).
Honorable Mention: Zack Jones continued a dominant return to Chattanooga with 3.1 innings of one run ball out of the bullpen against the Suns, striking out six batter in the process.
