Last Time Out: The Lookouts clinched a series win against the Barons with an 8-3 win Sunday. Ryan Eades made a spot start and performed admirably, going 3.2 innings with four hits and one unearned run allowed, with a walk and seven strikeouts. Brandon Peterson earned his first win of the season with 1.1 scoreless innings followed by Zack Jones earning a hold with two scoreless frames. Heiker Meneses and TJ White both finished with three hits while Shannon Wilkerson and Ryan Walker both finished with two.
Roster Shuffling: In the last week, the Lookouts roster has seen numerous players called-up to Triple-A Rochester. Mitch Garver, Leo Reginatto, David Hurlbut, Omar Bencomo, Jake Reed and now Heiker Meneses have all gotten promotions to the Red Wings, while TJ White and Luke Bard have been added to the roster. The current Lookouts roster has just 22 active players on it.
Season Series Sweep: With Sunday’s victory, the Lookouts cemented that their 2016 season will end without having lost a series to the Barons. Chattanooga is 13-6 against Birmingham going into the two teams’ last meeting of the year and the Lookouts have won every series the squads have played.
Stepping Up: In the four games since Mitch Garver was called up, Stuart Turner is batting .533 (8-for-15) with three doubles, four runs scored, five driven in, with two walks and three strikeouts. Turner’s hitting .286 in August and .272 in the second half, 40 points higher than his current season average.
Decisions, Decisions: RHP Kohl Stewart has received a decision in every game since his Lookouts debut, earning his sixth win Saturday (6-5). Stewart is 4-1 in his last five starts with a 1.74 ERA in 31 innings pitched during that stretch.
Missing Bats: Stephen Gonsalves has K’ed 63 batters in 53.2 innings pitched across nine starts for the Lookouts. The LHP allowed eight runs in his first two starts lasting just 8.2 combined innings, but has thrown 45 innings with 22 hits and six runs allowed in six starts since. Southern League batters are hitting just .186 against Stephen in 183 total AB.
Innings-Eater: David Hurlbut, last Monday’s starter, has gone six or more innings in 15 of his last 17 starts. The LHP is averaging 5.9 innings per start (136/23 GS) and leads the Southern League in frames thrown. His 136 innings pitched is the highest total of his career.
