Mitch Garver Named an AFL Top Prospect & Other Twins News and Notes
Yesterday, 2016 Chattanooga Lookouts catcher Mitch Garver was named to the Arizona Fall League’s Top Prospects Team. As a member of the Surprise Saguaros Mitch Garver finished second in the league in homers (4, tie) while hitting .229 with 14 RBIs in 19 games. Joining Garver as a Top Prospect is Nick Gordon. Gordon is the Twins number two overall prospect and hit .346 (4th) in 21 games. Gordon spent last season with the Fort Myers Miracle and compiled a batting average of .291 while driving in 52 runs and stealing 19 bases.
The announcement of the AFL’s Top Prospects highlighted a busy week for current and former Twins Prospects. Here are some other news and notes from around the organization.
- In anticipation of the Rule 5 draft the Minnesota Twins shored up their 40-man roster by adding six players to the roster including five former Lookouts. The aforementioned Mitch Garver was added along with Felix Jorge, Engelb Vielma, Daniel Palka and Zack Granite.
- Former Lookouts slugger Adam Brett Walker II was claimed by the Orioles this week after being dropped by the Milwaukee Brewers. In 2015, Walker II set the Lookouts all-time home run record with 31 in 133 games for the team.
- This week the Twins announced that they have re-signed Alex Wimmers . The former Ohio State Buckeye spent time with the Lookouts in 2015 and 2016 and made his Major League debut with Minnesota last season.
